She is a timid new boater and the third lesson he had her swimming through the rapids to get the feel of things and comfortable going a T rescue in calm water. I finally had someone to help put a roll together even in moving water. He is also teaching new strokes and different ways to enter and leave a rapid. The facality it awesome or should I say it appears to be. I have only Kayaked there. There are lots of other none boating activities for the spouse or family.
Greetings, What to introduce everyone to the Buck Creek Whitewater Project located in Springfield, OH. We have completed construction on 2 of the 4 dam sites in the project scope. The Art Museum Site has two wave structures and the Snyder Park Site has four wave structures. The other sites are scheduled for construction in 2011. Stay tuned for www.ecopsortscorridor.com in the coming weeks. You can check out video of construction and play on Youtube, search surfspringfieldOH or Buck Creek Kayaking. http://v4.wqdata.com/webdblink/buckcreek.php includes the Plum St. Gauge for Buck Creek. We have secured fall releases starting on Sept 18th, 2010. They will run every Sat./Sun. through the end of Nov. See you on the water, jloftis

I have paddled the park many many times over the past three years and the place is awesome! It is a great place to playboat, work on ferries, and eddy hopping. The channels are not really that shallow. On occassion I have scraped my helmet but I have done that on rivers as well, but for the most part it is a safe place that is predictable and good to try new moves that you might not want to risk on a river. Experienced paddlers will love the park and will constantly find new features to entertain you. Beyond the paddling it is fun to grab a beer and hang out when done paddling. Come out and see the park.:)

Quite a few people are on this one. We're very excited by the possibility. Jonathon Lutz, who is also the executive director of Michigan Audubon, and several members of the UM kayak club (Raw Strength and Courage Kayakers, http://sitemaker.umich.edu/kayak) are involved. My wife and I are members of the Huron River Watershed Council, and are advocating as well. In addition to providing a whitewater recreation venue in an area otherwise devoid of ww, converting Argo Pond to a whitewater park would have major environmental benefits. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality recommended the dam be removed more than 10 years ago. There are also safety issues with the aging dam. (What brought all this to the fore again is a set of costly repairs the dam will need soon, if it is not removed.) There are significant enough potential economic advantages to the city that a properly designed ww park could provide a positive return on investment fairly quickly even without considering the cost of dam repairs. The biggest challenge is finding quality alternative accommodations for the rowing club that uses the pond. Stay tuned! -Lee

I just ran across a news article that seems to indicate that there is a whitewater park being discussed in Ann Arbor MI, with the removal of an old dam. Is there anyone in the AW network who would be skilled at approaching the decision makers to explain the benfits of such a project and offer advise? The lower peninsula of MI is literally without ANY real whitewater. A park located in Ann Arbor could be a huge benefit to midwestern paddlers, as well as the local area.

This seems to be in the very early phases however i think it will be good to get the info out. All that is being done at this time is fund raising to cover the cost of a feasibility study. This study costs $10,000. All this study would do is determine the possibility and cost of putting a WW park in Billings MT.

If you want to donate checks should be made out to
Brennan's Wave, C/O Triel Culver
2944 Rockrim Lane
Billings MT 59102

If you have any questions please post here and i will try to get more info. I have nothing to do with this project and only just found out about it.

Over the years there have been a few groups of us trying to get a park started in the Lehigh valley, There have been plans made and sites found and a lot of talk but not even a rock moved, so being the best potential for a park in the future we found a site in Northampton, Pa. Where there is a 8 foot dam breeching the Lehigh river, owned by a cement co. "La Farge" , they (I been told) have a few years to do something with the dam. So it would be a perfect opportunity to put in a WW park there as there is parking and a riverside park there already + the need for a type of fish ladder there as it impedes upstream migration at that very point on the Lehigh all the way to Francis Walter Dam(approx, 60 mi). I see many types of WW parks sort of become a fish ladder once installed, there were 3 dams with fish ladders installed to the tune of millions of dollars bellow this dam that could of been WW Parks but that was long ago. now we know these parks draw people and money to the area where there built year round. If anyone has any input on how we can sway the right people to get a project like this started please contact me @ riverdog5@verizon.net

Thanks, Jeff Keim
