You are too kind Barry. I appreciate your benevolent rememberance of this particular incident. However, no matter how innovative it was, the pot-head cranial protector was not anything I would consider adequate or appropriate these days. I was young, dumb and trying to impress someone of the feminine species on that trip, so to my early 20's mind, staying off the river wasn't an option.

Needless to say, the pot-head cranial protector failed to impress in the manner I would have preferred. At least this scandal didn't come out during my intense and hotly contested campaign for president.

Think I could market these? Pot-Heads cranial protection gear, the only helmet made from recycled cookware.

Oh the shame! I can't take it anymore! Even now I hear Barry cackling to himself.

Years ago, around 1990, I came to Lexington to attend the NPFF and then on Sunday went to the BSF (which was running low) with B6, C6, Jackie and Derek Eggers, and some other persons. Due to the NPFF party the night before we got off to a late start and the shuttle was over an hour long. By the time we were ready to begin the day was very advanced and I discovered I had left my helmet in the shuttle vehicle. Thinking fast I found a heavy aluminum cooking pot with the handle missing nearby. After sizing it, securing massive amounts of 3mm grey foam inside it with duct tape, and using more duct tape to secure it on my head, I descended the BSF wearing this deathtrap helmet. It was not one of my prouder moments.

If I had to rate my former self today, I would give myself 7 out of 10 for style, and 10 out of 10 for sheer dumbass moves. Meryl, you don't even rate. Get thee behind me until you do something genuinely idiotic.

Meryl... your entry for the dumbass of the month award is a pretty good one, but was easily rectified. Big deal... you forgot your helmet and had to go to Sheltowee Trace Outfitters and rent a helmet for $5.00.

On the other hand... Larry Cable forgot his whole danged kayak and had to paddle a friggin raft down the river. That ain't right.

Also... Meryl didn't even swim.

A great day indeed. Sure was nice not having to drive out of state for once, and to get to paddle an incredibly beautiful section of the Cumberland for the first time was a treat.
A few Swimmys, Heather nailing all her combat rolls, entertainment at Screaming Right, Last Drop, sunburned shoulders...oh yeah. Thanks everyone for the good day.

Please, more rain.

Damn! I believe that's the largest group of BWA'rs I've ever paddled with on one trip. 20 boaters and we weren't crowding each other in any of the rapids.

It looks like the river peaked out just before 10 am at Williamsburg at 2050 cfs, so I'm going to call the official level for the trip 2000 cfs. Nice level and a really nice day.

If we could just find a way to get rid of a couple miles of the bottom:^).

The 2000 level and low lake level doesn't make the bottom near the pain in the butt it was when the lake was higher.

Had a great time. Let's do it again soon.
