Hey Wes, I stumbled upon the Heavenly Healing Center drum circle a couple of saturdays ago while on a walk with my daughter. Got some really cool video of her shaking her booty and the guys drumming. Seemed like a very chill and inviting set-up. Cool folks. I would definitely recommend checking it out. Diverse group too. I felt blessed to have been able to enjoy such a spontaneous happening on a beautiful saturday. Sounds like it isn't as spontaneous as I thought though. you say it's every saturday right? J

This sounds really cool. I would like to get on some of that action for sure. I really have been wanting to expand my repertoire of drum beats. My problem is making time as I boat on the weekends and work my butt off during the week so I can go boating again. But, drumming is a big part of our circles down in Tennessee and I am always wanting to drum when possible for me. Be cool to really have a good group of drummers in the BWA again. It is usually a pretty unique group at whatever festivals or events we attend when we do. And that reminds me, I still think we need a club banner to hang at RFRR, Gauley Fest, Cheat Fest and where-ever else we camp and assemble in mass.

Most definitely will!!! The ones I'm starting soon are part of lessons I'm taking.(very structured) I have a feeling several more will spin off of them though. Are you playing the one you made with your Dad?? I'd love to hear that one.

Hey Wes. Drum circles are always welcomed at my place. There's plenty of indoor space and the neighbors are far enough away that nobody would be firing shotguns at us. There's three drums here: a djembe, djun djun and an ashiko. I'm happy to share them all. (excepting JeffK who I heard made a djembe buckle to it's knees and cry like a bullfrog) 8-)

I haven't drummed much since last winter as I'm learning to play the mandolin. Swollen, blood-vessel-busted fingers don't find mando notes fast enough. I'm gettin ready for organized jam sessions that begin in a few weeks. I have a dobro, violin, guitar and bass player that I'll be working with. Playing with others is steppin it up for me, so I'll probably stay very light handed on the drums until I can jam with these folks. Sometime this winter, I'd like to have some string get-togethers too...kick it with B6 and co. Perhaps even "Beel" will grace us with his strings.

There's some great musical abilities in this chapter. If I can lend a space or instruments to encourage it, let me know.

Hi All,
I love to drum ... still suck at it but love it. Know some of you do too. Our sporadic drumming at paddlin events just isn't enough for me so I've been looking into some other potential drumming opportunities in our area.

The first thing I found was the Lexington Drum Circle Meetup Group and joined those guys. Got a nice Email introduction that told me about 2 active circles:

Saturdays at Heavenly Healing Center 3rd and Upper 5-7p - rain or shine, indoors space available if needed due to weather. Described as structured but beginners welcome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8AutdKEa2g

Drums for Peace Sun nights at Woodland ... no time was given, totally unstructured, but said it will probably die down as the weather worsens for outdoor drumming.

From the Lexington Drum Circle Meetup Group Website there was mention of a group that meets in a field in Wilmore every other Fri ... thinking if they are still active, will soon be out of season though if in a field - wasn't mentioned in the Email.

I've also found reference to an L'ville group that meets 2nd Sundays at 1st Unitarian Church, 4th / York 4-5:30 ... not sure about inside options: mamajo16@yahoo.com is listed contact.

Last but not least ... 3/13/10 at 10 am and 11am Lex Philharmonic PB&J series will host a drum circle for everyone and will provide some instruments $5/$6 - I presume this is prior to a concert.

If all else fails ... maybe we can do our own thing too .... just don't want to wait til clinic or some Spring paddle trip ... after RFRR of course.
