13 Missing Gauges for Sections

The following reaches are missing their gauges for various reasons.

id state river section
1,397 NY Rushford Lake Outlet Rushford Lake to the Genesee River
1,750 TN French Broad Hot Springs (NC) to Highway 107 at Del Rio
1,761 TN Little Pigeon, West Prong 3. Campbell Overlook to Sugarlands Visitor Center
1,762 TN Little Pigeon, West Prong 4. Gatlinburg to 1st bridge in Pigeon Forge
2,136 WA Icicle Creek 1 - Rock Island Campground to Ida Creek (Upper)
2,137 WA Icicle Creek 2 - Ida Creek to Snow Creek trailhead
2,968 TN Little Pigeon, West Prong 1. Chimneys Trailhead to Chimneys Picnic Area
2,969 TN Little Pigeon, West Prong 2. Chimneys Picnic Area to Campbell Overlook
3,412 WA Icicle Creek 3 - Snow Creek trailhead to Leavenworth Hatchery
3,567 TN French Broad Del Rio to Bridgeport Market
4,575 TX Mexican Creek Spillway run (0.5 mile)
4,580 PR Arecibo Adjuntas to Adjuntas lake
5,747 TX Little Walnut Creek I35 to 2nd Crossing of Hwy 183 (5.5 miles)

The equivalent gauges should be:

Rushford Lake Outlet 1,397
French Broad at Newport 1,750
West Prong Little Pigeon at Sevierville 1,761
West Prong Little Pigeon at Sevierville 1,762
Icicle Creek Above Snow Creek 2,136
Icicle Creek Above Snow Creek 2,137
West Prong Little Pigeon at Sevierville 2,968
West Prong Little Pigeon at Sevierville 2,969
Icicle Creek Above Snow Creek 3,412
French Broad at Newport 3,567
Medina Lk nr San Antonio 4,575
R Gde de Arecibo nr Adjuntas 4,580
Little Walnut Ck at IH 35, Austin, TX 5,747

I need some more information about some of the gauges. Some of the gauges were discontinued by the USGS and others were updated by proprietary methods or doubtful virtual gauges. If you own one of these sections, could you look for an equivalent gauge in and give a shout out if you fix it? In the meantime, I'll attack them one by one as soon as I get the site stable and running.

Thanks,

Ryan

Ok, I'm confused.

I tried to fix the Mexican Creek gage, but it's wrong.

The AW gage "MEDINA LAKE NEAR SAN ANTONIO [ USA-TEX ] 33855" which is
[www.americanwhitewater.org]

Is apparently an NOAA rainfall gage.

The gage *should be* the USGS "USGS 08179500 Medina Lk nr San Antonio, TX"
which is:
[waterdata.usgs.gov]

And doesn't appear to be in the AW database (at least I couldn't find it).

Does this help? How do I get the missing gage added to the AW data?

I've fixed Little Walnut Creek (I think); hard to tell with the rivers so low in Texas.

The gage you listed "Little Walnut Ck at IH 35, Austin, TX" does not exist, but the
gage "USGS 08158380 Little Walnut Ck at Georgian Dr, Austin, TX" does exist and works.

I'll bet the name of the gage was just changed by the USGS to more correctly
reflect the actual location.

Thanks Skip, I'll tell you one trick you might have already found. Gauges can get turned off by the system. You can find inactive gauges by going to state gauges and clicking the "include all" check and then doing a name search. When you click on the gauge, there is an 'edit gauge' link. Follow that and set the update frequency to a non-zero value and the gauge will turn on. From there, all is good.

Also, when USGS turns off gauges, we do too now. When USGS reassigns gauge numbers we grab the new number.

Ryan,

I've been looking at the Quebec gages which really aren't Quebec gages.

The active one that shows up is really confusing.

It's apparently gage number AW#41099. It's linked to reach 3899
which claims to be the Gatineau. And it has a related gage which
is "POWELL RIVER AT BIG STONE GAP, VA (AW#7240)"

Editing reach 3899 shows a river with no information except the
name (Gatineau) and state (Quebec) and class of V+.

Looking at gate 7240 in VA, it shows the linked reach of 3899.

However the Gatineau is really reach 5901 and 5263 (at least
the ones I created). I suspect that this Gatineau entry was created
by someone else since it lists the class as V+ (which its not).

So... before I go in and make things worse. Can you look at the
database and tell me what that gage really is? What river is it
on? If we know that we can at least fix the state.

thanks
/Skip

Ryan,

Regarding the Mexican Creek gage.

The Medina Lake USGS gage "USGS 08179500 Medina Lk nr San Antonio, TX"
does not show up in either the active or inactive list of Texas gages.

How can we get it added so I can fix this reach?

thanks

What you are seeing is the correlation gauge for the GB. It is correlating because a gauge (the wrong one) is linked to it for some reason. Is there supposed to be a gauge on this river?
