Thanks for restoring the Trout Creek photos.

So how were they deleted?

Is it possible that other people are able to delete my photos or edit stream pages I am responsible for?

Very hesitant about uploading any more photos or doing any further work on any pages until what has happened is clarified.

Thanks, Alex

If you look on the sweetwater creek page, then click on the rapids tab, then scroll down to the mill shoals rapid, you will see an icon on the right side of the page that says photo removed.

The hole in the numbers of those photos is
[www.americanwhitewater.org]
I suspect that is the deleted photo.

Hello Harvey,

We may or may not be able to figure out exactly why your photos got marked deleted. It may seem counter intuitive, but the best way to track down a problem or conclude that it is a random type error, is to continue uploading pictures and to continue working on your web pages, while being vigilant to unintended or unexpected changes. It is possible that the problem will not be repeated for you, that no more photos will end up being deleted, and that we won't figure out why the original two photos were deleted.

If more photos do end up being deleted, then you and Ryan and we will have more evidence to use to figure out what is going on.

As best I can figure out, the photo uploader is the only person with permissions to remove a photo. It could be that the main problem is simply that the edit button and the remove button are right next to each other and the remove button could be accidentally clicked. Ryan has stated that there is no confirmation requestor if you do click on the remove button. The photo is removed with no questions asked. So that seems like a big problem.

Regional and National stream leaders can edit photos to correct reach id problems and such, but we can not remove photos. Plus, if we can contact the uploader we like to have the uploader make any edits. We make edits primarily when there is no uploader contact that works.

Other streamTeamers in your state can edit reaches that you are working on, but that is highly unlikely, especially since you have accepted your reaches and are listed as the Streamteamer. When you are actively working on a reach, all of the rest of us are just grateful that we can turn our attention to other reaches that are not being worked on.

When you upload photos in the near future, make a note of AW ID number they are given. If something should happen, Ryan can use the ID number to easily find the photo in the database and undelete it. Bradley posted a link to his missing photo, so it will be easy for Ryan to track that photo down and see what happened to it.

Nice job on Trout Creek and on your personal web pages.

Okay, I fixed it.

In the future, if anyone encounters such a problem, simply send me an email with the ID number of the photo and a short description of the photo. You can see that number at the end of the photo's URL Location; in this case, it's photo # 5759. Then it's pretty easy for me to tap into the database and restore it.

I could do this with the ID number alone, but the additional info is useful to be sure that there are no typos with the numbers and I'm finding the correct photo to restore.

Thanks!

Another batch of missing photos. They were on the rapids page of the West Prong, TN page.

Photos are also missing from my AW photo database so I dont know the ID number.

The rapids and the original file names are below. Please fix.

Alex,

I've fixed them. The West Prong doesn't appear to have any missing photos anymore. By the BTW, you and / or Kirk have done a great job with that reach.

You have two other deleted photos:

Deflection Falls and Gravity's Little Helper in Wildcat Creek, GA. Those look like they may be duplicates, because all the rapids in that reach have their pictures. Should I leave them alone?

(I'll look into the other reaches you list in your other post soon. Right now I've gotta get to work, and I won't get to them this evening, because the little local ski area still has some nice snow. Maybe over the weekend?!)

Matt,

Thank you very much for restoring the West Prong photos!

The duplicate Wildcat Creek photos were ones that I uploaded after seeing that the originals were missing from my AW photo database. Can the originals be deleted or replaced.

Alex

Alex,

I've restored the photos in the reaches you listed above.
I'll leave the Wildcat Creek photos alone, since they're duplicates of good photos.

Since anyone can edit photos and they seem to do so randomly I think the photos just vanish when they get edited by someone. I have noticed that sometimes when I add a reach to a photo it becomes my photo at other times it stays with the original author. I have had several photos edited and then reassigned by others.
