Question about adding pics within Rapid Description text.

Somewhere I saw, from a AW reach out in Colorado I think, where the streamkeeper had added actual thumbnails within and/or below the given text for an individual rapid.

I've got embedded links out the ying-yang on my little stretch, but want to add in some clickable thumbnails. I tried to using a modified version of this HTML below:

<div style="padding: 0px; float: right; clear: both; width: 200px;"> <a href="http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Photo/detail/photoid/17979/"> <img width="200" height="84" alt="Green
Access fundraising bumpersticker. Click to learn where to purchase." src="http://boatingbeta.com/images/grnaccess_sticker.jpg" style="border: 1px solid black;" /> </a> </div>

That is just the example, I had added other links in there, but kept the same code. When I inserted it within the rapid description and clicked update, the page came back as though I had not touched it. No added code within the little box, etc.

Any simple way to describe this to me, realizing I am a ding-dong and not too savvy with code and stuff? Thanks!

My reach is the Green River Narrows (NC):

John,

I couldn't figure out anything wrong with your code. Try using the beta site, which we expect to become the main AW site very soon. It has user-friendly tools for editing reach, gauge, and rapid descriptions. Using the beta site, I added your photo and thumbnail to the Bride of Frankenstein description. The result works both in the beta site and in the current Green site.

Great job with the Narrows, by the way! Thanks so much for your efforts!

Thanks for the comments, Matt. When looking at the code using the old site, it must have automatically changed it from what I posted above. I've now modified it with the thumbnail and links I want and put it in the Squeeze description. Not entirely happy with that example, but now I know (or think I know) how to go about it. The beta site scares me because once I made some change using it and all the rest of my code got messed up bad for the tables at the top of the page and I had to re-do them. Now I save the entirety of the page's code from time to time in an email to self.

But, I'm a moron and could ruin anything.

One other thing I'd like to do is to get rid of the "Gauge Information" line at the top of the page (which is unused for the Green page), and be able to insert the table with gradient in it up towards the top of the page where the average and maximum gradient are listed. Is there any way I can do that, or is the template such that I just don't have that level of control/input?

Thanks again.

Here is a page with embedded pictures with black borders and space between the text and the picture.

Here is the code for two pictures, one left and one right aligned:
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Photo/detail/photoid/18646/"><img vspace="10" hspace="10" border="2" align="right" alt="" src="/photos/archive/thumb/18646.jpg" style="border: 2px solid black; margin: 10px;" /></a><a target="_blank" href="http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Photo/detail/photoid/18646/"><img vspace="10" hspace="10" border="2" align="left" alt="" src="/photos/archive/thumb/18648.jpg" style="border: 2px solid black; margin: 10px;" /></a>

Here is a page with multiple thumbnails in some rapid descriptions. The photos are below the text.

Here is the code that put 4 thumbnails below the rapid text.
<br />
<a href="/photos/?photoid=12073"> <img border="1" src="/photos/archive/12073thumb.jpg" alt="" /></a> <a href="/photos/?photoid=5336"> <img border="1" src="/photos/archive/5336thumb.jpg" alt="" /></a> <a href="/photos/?photoid=5347"> <img border="1" src="/photos/archive/5347thumb.jpg" alt="" /></a> <a href="/photos/?photoid=5548"> <img border="1" src="/photos/archive/5548thumb.jpg" alt="" /></a>

As for your last comment about eliminating the Gauge Information space at the top of the page, on the new website it is eliminated, so probably looks closer to what you want. See:

I second Matt's compliment. You have done a very nice job on this page, despite being both a ding dong and a moron! Remarkable!

We're all morons on occasion; we can all ruin anything. I've done it plenty of times.

That's why you're very wise to save the page's code occasionally, in what amounts to a backup operation. Everyone who's written a paragraph or more about their adopted river reach(es) should do the same thing.

Thanks Paul! With those examples of code for tucking photos in I'll be all set as I dabble with that concept.

On the 8888 version, things looks a little whacky to me, as not all the instructions come through regarding spacing and bold text in tables, for example. Not sure I like it, but will experiment some more.

Appreciate it. Cheers!
