Good stuff Brandon. I like the way you change around the camera angle on the same rapid. It's a simple thing but really keeps the viewer engaged. I also enjoyed the music selection - was that from Bella Fleck's new one "Throw Down Your Heart"?
yes it was, just discovered he had a new CD out this weekend. really like it, Bela is definitly experimental! and the Plateau reminds me of Africa. i think it was the small tribes scattered throughout the area, and the safari tour.
cool, thanks Barry. I already had music set for the vid until I heard this stuff over the weekend. that's the hardest part of making these videos I think...picking the music.
I get tired of the same old raggae/heavy metal stuff.
I hear you about staying away from the standard music fare for paddling videos. I was a judge for this years NPFF and ended up watching and judging every video (save one). And while I found some of the music selections by the filmmakers good - most were excruciating mundane and full of monotonous, headbanger, heavy metal or bad rap. The pros were absolutely the worst offenders while the amateurs the most enlightened. I realize the pros are constrained by copyright but it's still no excuse...
In the old days, the most overused music in boating videos was bluegrass. I blame Dueling Banjos :-)

Funny, I agree that in the old days we used to give a heavy sigh with each new film accompanied with some kinda bluegrass background (not Bella Fleck mind you). I remember when the now tired rap and heavy metal was new and cool and a thankful change of pace. The funnest was when Mike Clark and I made a music tape to go with our slide show of our descent on the Chirripo Atlantico in Costa Rica. Clark wrote an AW article on that one. Back in 92 or 93 I think. I thought we had cutting edge jams at the time, like some Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and a number of others. I may have a recording somewhere of that slide show. Hmmmm,
Brent
Unrelated, but kind of related...camped and hiked in Frozen Head State Park near Wartburg this weekend. Waterfalls and wildflowers.
if you're ever in the area and can't boat, for some crazy reason, check this plae out.
Great group camping for future reference if Rock Creek CG is full....
Brandon actually that park is very related to the BWA in a historical way. Just fyi - the BWA used to just about "own" Frozen Head. It's campground was the center of the BWA's Emory-Obed boating universe during the 70s,80s and early 90s. We've held numerous beginner clinics based out of Frozen Head including the 2 that I was in charge of - the infamous Hot-Tub and BWA Eat Off clinics. (I'll show you the videos sometime - they are R rated.) BTW, both of my children were conceived in that campground:-)
The BWA quit going to Frozen Head when Rock Creek opened up and our beloved Dewayne, the Frozen Head ranger who for years tolerated our loud party ways was replaced by the onslaught of the born again nazis who now dominate the park.
