I know I am guilty of ridiculously early planning, here, but I am scheduled to give a talk in Knoxville on September 9 (Wed.). If I recall correctly, the Pigeon releases on Thursdays, Saturdays, and some other day of the week. So, I am thinking of doing a Pigeon run on Thursday, September 10. This will mean that I cannot teach on Thursday, much to the immense disappointment of the UK students. But, all must make sacrifices for a worthy cause

If anyone can also plan that far ahead and make a note on your calendar for a Pigeon run on Sept. 10, I'd love to paddle with you. If you are a class III boater, I'll be thrilled to paddle the upper. If you are not into the class III stuff yet, we'll do the lower, and I'll be thrilled with that, too.

I am still trying to swing a run on the Pigeon on Thursday, September 10. Does anyone know if the Thursday dam releases will still be happening then? Also, can anyone paddle with me that day?
My deal is that I am going to UT, Knoxville that Tuesday night, to visit with folks on Wednesday. I plan to do a run on the Pigeon on Thursday, then go back for more visits on Friday. Then I can run something else on Saturday.
If the Pigeon is a no-go, then I can change plans to visit UT Wed. and Thu., then take Friday and Saturday and part of Sunday for boating.

Man, I wish I could Chris. I am out of town until the 11th and then heading to the Gauley. Probably won't make back to the Pigeon til after Gauley and RF season.

I have had to set my schedule for that week, so as of now I cannot go boating on the Thursday. My plan is for boating on Friday and Saturday, and maybe Sunday (Sept. 11, 12, 13), somewhere in the Smokies region. Who is going where and when? I will be checking the posts.

I think the answer to your question is no one knows about the Pigeon Thurs. release on Sept. 10. The scheduled releases on the Pigeon are from Memorial Day to Labor Day only.

However, the Pigeon runs a high percentage of the year and I'm guessing that you have a good possibility of there being a boatable level, but its not guaranteed and there may not be as much traffic as another typical summertime Thurs.

Remember our trip to the Nanty to take Ben on Sept 11-13th. Britt and I will already be at NOC starting Sunday the 6th and paddling all week.
Why don't you hook up with our group over that weekend?

Thanks for the reminder, Britt. I'll want to get some class III paddling in, but should have plenty of time to paddle with The Man!. What day is Ben's first Nanty trip to be. Saturday?

Yes, the first paddling day with Ben will be on Saturday. He's staying at the Nantahala Inn and is looking for a group to drive down with or follow since he's never been down there before.
