Boone Creek - Sunday

Meeting up with Dallas Hargis at 11AM at Riptides to paddle Boone Creek. For those who have not paddled Boone, a good Class II - III creek with beautiful waterfalls. Boone does have strainer potential and a lot of debris was seen on the KY river at the mouth of Boone yesterday.

Allen,

I don't know if you noticed yesterday on the way by the Christian Camp, but it appeared they had some structural damage or else there was damage upstream. I saw lots of people standing around, I saw building materials pinned against a tree, and I saw Boone at the highest I've ever seen it.

I also saw a BIG fluffy playhole in the center of the creek just upstream from the BCC. I didn't have time to stop and check it out. If my eyes weren't playing tricks on me then it would've been one of the biggest play holes around Central KY at that level. There was a lot of cfs in that creek yesterday.

So.....be careful out there. As I said yesterday morning on my post....trees happen. And as you saw they did. But also, tires happen, 2x4's happen, tin roof's happen, cars happen. Boone Creek might have who knows what lurking around that next corner for those of you expecting an Elkhorn-like difficulty level.

Boone Creek is one of the most beautiful streams you'll paddle anywhere, not just Fayette County/Kentucky. This is not an overstatement. As Allen said, there will be strainer potential but we plan to take our time and make the trip enjoyable and safe.

I think its possible that Jouett still has a run in it. Unlikely, but possible.

I'd love to go and I have the paddling ability to navigate the water; however, without a solid roll I'm concerned about a potential swim into a strainer. That being said, you guys/gals have a great time! One of these days a solid roll will come for me.

Boone got flushed and was wide open all the way down. What a beautiful creek. Thanks Dallas

If anybody gets a visual on Boone Creek for Monday could you post here. It might still be up for an after work run.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Ledgeman,

I think it will be low but doable. I heard Jeff C. say on Sat. that he thought it could run for the next 5 days.
