Elkhorn ok to run at 6000?

Anybody ever run the Elkhorn at or around 6000?

Thinking of running it tomorrow and just wondering what I should expect to encounter at the 6000 cfs level. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Lyle,
6000 is way beyond safe level with respect to the dam. Don't do it. You don't want the news headlines to say "Some crazy kayaker foolishly died...." And, for the sake of the club, you especially don't want it to be "Some crazy kayaker from the BWA...."

Lisle:
It looks like it might well get below 4500 today. I know that some have run it at that level. Just make sure someone is running it with you.

Lyle, I've ran the mighty Elkhorn at 4800 and it just isn't work the portage of the damn. Once you make it past the damn its pretty much washed out. The other issue is that if you end up swimming there aren't many places to safely get to shore. If it drops to below 4000 by this afternoon then its great to run with an experienced crew. A lot is still washed out, but what is there is pretty big, (for the elkhorn)

Hey, thanks for the information and advice. It looks like the level has dropped to around 4,200 and is continuing to recede so hopefully I will be able to run it a few times this week while its in the 3,000-4,000 level. Will certainly remember the info next time the H2O rises in the Khorn again.

Lyle,
All good advice above. I have ran Elkhorn at 4500 cfs and the dam can be portaged one boat at a time being careful. However, as Jason indicates, everything is pretty washed out. Interesting to do but the rewards are really not there.
