Saturday Trip Report

Kirkwood and I first ran Gilbert's Creek in Lawrenceburg. It is one beautiful run but we could have used some more water in it. No doubt it will be on my list to do again when there is more water there. Still, not a bad run at all.

We then went to Glenn's. The level was awesome. The only downside is that I was in the creekboat instead of the playboat. Still, the Nomad surfs well for a big boat. Anyway, we only had to get out of the boats twice. The two creekwide trees were easy to spot and get around. Both spots were above the distillery so anybody who does not want to have to fool with the portages, you can put in at the bridge below the distillery. IMHO: carry around the trees, its worth it do get to do the entire creek.

Below the distillery the water was awesome. a couple of spots were a bit dicey to get the boats around but we did not have to get out.

I hope all of you had as much fun as we did and hope to meet up with everybody tomorrow for the continuation of a great local boating weekend. Mr. Kirkwood and I are planning on meeting at the 'get out' for the Elkhorn tomorrow morning at 10.

Excellent!
Yalll think Glenns will hold for tomorrow morning?

Benson was somewhere between 4-5' by the time we got on it. Big and bouncy, good times.

Made 2 runs on Cedar today. First run water was at a decent level but definitely not as big as I have been on it. 2nd run was starting to drop out, bout a foot lower. Still was able to run the driveway at any point that you wished. Swinging bridge has a tree down on it so alot of it is in the water. River left is the highest point so that is where we squeezed under. Ran the right line at split decision..nice hole there today. All in all a very good run.

If you are going to do Glen's Creek in the morning I would like to go...the Elkhorn is over 4000 and still rising...we'll have to see about that in the morning.

Dallas et al,

I'll look at Glenns in the AM, I believe it will be a run still judging from past history and the water in the sinks in Woodford tonite. . . .

I'll call somebody. I think. I should. Get extra sleep tonite, gotta play piano in the AM in Lex, but I'll check Glenns on the way. By 9:30 anyway but if you could get there earlier that would be even better.

Oh, and BTW, the new strainers Todd Garland & I saw today were both BELOW the distillery. . . . . . .

Mike

As Dallas indicated, we both got our first run in on Gilbert's Creek. With a little more water this could be an excellent run. We put in just upstream of the private bridge next to a beautiful stone house, but this creek could be ran much further upstream if permission to park could be obtained. I will try and work on this since it is only 10 minutes from my house. The nature of the creek is a combination of Muddy and Boone and Otter. The scenery is close to that of Boone and the water quality "appeared" good. Neither of us thought to bring a camera so no photos of this one yet. I don't know if I would call it a Class III more Class II. As with all creeks in this area, wood can be an issue although it was pretty clean for this run.

Wavey introduced me to Hickman creek on Sat afternoon and found some good surf action. We were somewhere around 1000 cfs I think for at least the start of the run. There is one juicy breaker / hole near the takeout that is narrow but plenty beefy at this flow. Wavey has it dialed in pretty well ... I'm working on it. Has a long service eddy on the left, and most of the other good waves had service eddies, at least to start. The only downside is this beautiful little gorge is heavily dumped in. Would be a massive cleanup project if anyone is so inclined.

This run in only about 25min from my house so I'll definitely be checking it out again. The lower wave could be attained at lower flow from the takeout and Wavey says it stays good to low levels. Also there are waves near the put in that could be park / surfed.

Thanks Wavey for introducing me to this littly gem!

Hickman Creek is about 2 or 3 miles from my house where is crosses KY 1541 (Chrisman Mill Rd). I've never been on it (or anything else but Elkhorn, Lower Pigeon, or lower Noli), but would sure like to try it. Keep me in mind for future runs. Can use my house for a base.

Me and "tha Don" caught Calloway Saturday morning at a nice and very manageable and fluffed out level at around 10 am or so. We checked the level, saw it was good to go and ran shuttle for a second run. When we put on (like 20 min later) the level had dropped right before our eyes. Like about 6-8" to be exact. We had caught up with Palmer and one of his cronies so we just said let's blast.

We actually ended up catching up to the water it seemed. No problems having to monkey walk out or anything, just good lines and good times and much more exciting than my couch.

Tha Don treated me to to the awful Waffle House and it was stellar. Reminiscing of our last Tates Creek 4am Waffle House experience where plates flew across the room and a very angry (and very large) lady was upset she didn't get her MFn waffle and started to shout and then commenced to screaming and crying. Yes that really happened. Saturday was much more tame but still contained the usual slew of characters.

So after eatn I haven't had enough. Low and behold Wes calls. I say yo let's try Hickman. Should be a good run and much to my surprise there was well over 1000cfs in it. More like 1300-1400 and much fun was had by all. Good surf and some trashy (pun intended) hoes. Her name is Dumpster Slut and she is white and trashy!! She's scattered her lipstick and makeup all over the shore and there are broken glass crack pipes and traces of meth on her service eddy. Beware!!

What an awesome Saturday. Too bad the cats had to go and lay an egg or else it would have been the icing on the cake. Oh well....boat tha most!!
