The Little River of the Smoky Mtns. is running and will be there this weekend. Anybody just a little interested in a little action on the Little River?

Normally I would Dallas. But, I must stay a bit closer to Lex. Most of the rest of the winter I would be in for a run on the Little.

Come to the RF? Should be a great day on Saturday in EC.

But, you are right, this would be a great water level weekend for the Little. Have fun whatever you do bro.

Dallas there is talk among some of the Somerset crew, some of which you met last week, of heading to the little. My only limitation is that the trip needs to be a day trip since I need to be back in KY early on Sunday. I will talk to them in a little bit and tell them you are recruiting for a trip.

Hearing more interest in the Little, and less in the Tellico. Of our 3 options we were considering:

I agree, the Little will be there all wkend. The Tellico also appears to be stabilizing. Think it will be there tomorrow, not sure about Sun though.

The Upper Nanty is currently way to high for the girls, but they may back off tomorrow. The Nanty Lake is well over target pool and currently it's pouring over the spillway. The good news with that is that it's warmer, the bad news is it's likely to remain too high if they run it through the wkend. Duke isn't even telling NOC their wkend plans. I would guess they would turn it back some for fishing, but who knows.

So we could do the Little with you guys tomorrow, then do either the Little again on Sun, or the Tellico or Upper Nanty.

Brent,

Thanks for the invite to the RFG but the Little is a hollerin my name. Ellen, come on down. The Little is a gem, beautiful to look at, even more so when you try it on. Jason, get that Somerset crew primed and let's go. Will is in. All we need is what time to be there. Call me: 859-533-3575.

Planning on heading that direction in the a.m.
We were thinking about the Tellico tomorrow and Little on Sunday.
I don't think the Tellico will hold for a "fun" level on Sunday.
Where are ya'll planning on camping?
Like to hook up with ya'll at some point to run something.

The Little is one of the absolute best. Many sections to chose from.

Brent, and you know the Little is only about 4 hours from Lex, while the RF is probably about the same. So "staying close to home" seems to be 6 of one and half dozen of the other. But with all the sections the little has to offer, it makes one fine destination for all skill levels, not just the RF-capable paddlers ( which I'll never be - other than the non-gorge sections ). Also the Little runs along the road entirely and indeed opens up even more pin-pointing of which section(s) one choses to paddle. And the shuttles are indeed very short. Good restaraunts are just downstream in the town of Townsend. And not only is there camping, but commercial camping and hotels and cabins as well ( many with hot tubs ! ).

I can't wait to get back there once my shoulder is rehab'd. I'm doing tons better than I have for the last four or five years and my absence will soon be a thing of the past ( fair waring to all. . . . . . . . ). Dallas I hope you get there - let me know about any new strainers althought there never seem to be many there. And as an added bonus, the Greenbrier section of the Little Pigeon is just the other side of Gatlinburg - target CFS is 1400 - 2400 for a good open boat run, kayaks can probably go a little higher.

Hope all had a great time in the Smokies. Mike is right, there are many different sections to enjoy. Can't wait to hear the trip reports.

For us on the RFG, we left YT's at 8:45, was at Ratliff hole about 2 and half hours later from Winchester, and on the river and off by 2 p.m. "Another fine day of precision boating" for our crowd. About 600 cfs. Left the river around 3 and was home for dinner by 6 p.m. Now, that is a day trip. The Little is another hour and a half of driving, but I agree it is always worth the effort.

Beautiful weather and beautiful friends to paddle beautiful rivers with, can't wait to hear everyone else's trip reports. Just a beautiful weekend to be on the water. Felt like mid September weather out there.
