I spoke with Larry this morning and the plan is as follows:
a) Meet in Lexington at the Super America / Speedway on Richmond Road near I-75
b) Leave Lexington at 7:30 AM and meet at the takeout at 10 AM
c) We will meet Larry and Dallas (if he can make it) at the takeout
The flatwater used to be about an hour an a half. I would count on that long. We usually wait to snack and break at Bark Camp Creek and that splits the flat in half. Its a neat hike too up into a Tellico like little creek that is b-e-a utiful.
Putting on at 11 will get you off the river about 2:30-3:00 depending on how long you surf at Surfers
My druthers is the Rockcastle for cleanliness, shorter shuttle and ability to lap. Codi and I will be meeting a crew of camping paddlers at Bee Rock tomorrow evening. We will be down for whatever is clever for the crew.
The run is about 10.5 miles long "officially", with the bottom 3.5 miles being essentially flat but moving water. Depending on how much we play, stop and rescue people, or goof off, 4 1/2 to 5 hours on the river is about average.
If we actually get everyone to the Takeout at 10am, we should be on the river by 11:30 and be at the takeout between 4 and 5pm.
The Shuttle takes about 35 minutes. The forest service roads cut off a lot of the distance, but save very little time, unless you drive like Jason does on these roads :^).
At the level I'm guessing for Saturday, this will have at least 4 solid class III rapids, Center Rock,
Screaming Right, Stairsteps and Last Drop.
I have some family business that I need to take care of after the run, so I'll have to be anti social and drive down by myself. But everyone is welcome, so come on down.
I'm happy to take a folk or two down to CBF. Family matters demand that I have to stop in Somerset tomorrow afterwards before I come back to Lexington. Maybe there will be room in another vehicle for the drive back??
If anybody wanted to do a CBF and Rockcastle............I'm in!! The CBF takeout and Bee Rock are actually pretty darn close if you drive over the dam
I just got a new playboat and everything is bone dry round here. With low gas prices {comparitively} and a new boat I can't say no, Even though I should. Shame on me! I'll see ya at 10.
