Unnofficial Russell Fork clean up

Many of you know that I've been working with the RR company around Elkhorn City in order to get their help to facilitate removing trash from the RF Gorge via the tracks. I didn't make all the right contacts in time (I didn't realize that I should have started organizing this in 1995), so we are stuck with an "unofficial cleanup" for now.

Many of us will be hiking in to watch/video/photograph the race. And we'll see a plethora of trash when we do. In my mind, there's no reason not to pick some of it up as we travel along. I'll have trash bags stationed at Ratliff Hole in the Pavillion. And at Garden Hole at the Put-in.

Even if you just have a little time, every bit of trash removed helps. There always seems to be an inordinate amount of trash along the tracks themselves. And although none of us will officially be on the tracks (we'll stay at least 4 feet away in order not to violate safety codes), we can pick up that trash as well.

For those of you who are boating the Gorge, I know this isn't the best time to pick up trash (might affect your Race times), but there's always Sunday. Throw a bag in your boat and grab a few plastic bottles, beer cans, or hypodermic needles if you can.

Looking into an Official clean up of the Russell Fork in December. Stay tuned.

Thanks.

Steve Ruth ordered a dumpster and it will be stationed at Carson Island for your cleanup pleasure.

Soooooooooo, fill those bags up!
