Just spoke with Don Kinser after seeing John Cleves' email. Don told me that the Forest Service has announced, today, that there have been changes to the alternatives and there has been added 3 more to bring the total to 9. AW is just getting this, as well as the rest of us and is assessing the changes. Apparently, they received over 1200 letters, which they are required to read by law, and have implemented changes based upon information they have received. BTW, AW is extremely grateful for the BIG BWA effort on these letters as there was a large response from this regions paddlers. In fact, it was so noticeable, the letters from this area, that it may have been a factor in the midstream shift being taken by the Forest Service. Don said the letters written by us were very good and hit a lot of good points, considered by the Forest Service. Many of us voted for alternative No. 6, with reservations and comments, some of which appear to have been taken to heart leading to some additions to alternative No. 6. I believe the BWA had the largest response to any club or organization in the country, save AW itself. That is awesome you all! I am not sure how to post the notice I received from John Cleeves, so if anyone else got it, post it to this thread and let's mull it over. I would love to have our brain trust in the BWA sorting through these and posting thoughts and ideas. I am going down there to the "Alternatives Workshop" on Sat. to see what is up.
