The Tuck Needs Our Help

Hi All,

Just posted on the AW main page today, as I'm sure many of you have seen, was a request for letters of support for the removal of Dillsborough Dam. This is a confusing issue for me. I thought this was a done deal, but apparently they need letters to tell them to do what they already said they would do? The dam removal is supposed to enhance run options for the Tuck and help the river ecologically.

The Tuck is a beautiful little beginner (Class I-II) river about half an hour East of the Nanty. It's a great little transitional run up from say the Lower Elkhorn to the level of the Nanty. Brit and I went there this Summer and loved it. Fun little rapids, that are drop / pool so recovery of swimmers is much easier than the Nanty for random rollers (the water is much warmer as well). There's even a cool rope swing below the first rapid that's suitable for kids or adults. I've taken Brit to several beginner streams for instruction ... lower Noli, Elkhorn, French Broad ledges, Saluda in SC. I thought the Tuck was far and away the best, and Brit agrees. There's even a $5 easy shuttle service and a photo service. Help beginners / family canoeists in the region by firing off a letter supporting removal of the dam.

Thanks,

Wes Prince
