Elkhorn Cleanup Phase II
Posted by: eakirkwood (IP Logged)

The final phase of the BWA Elkhorn Cleanup is coming up on May 31. As of today, the following people have volunteered:

Brian Sandman
Kyle Meserve
Brandon Jett
Joey Calder
Bethany Overfield
Fred Coates
Brent Austin
Heather Warman
Todd Garland
Bill Pierskalla
Dave Margavage
Zach May
John Mello
Dot Edwards
Russell Hampton

If you have verbally volunteered and I do not have you listed, please accept my apology as I probably have forgotten. Please post here or send me an email. I need at least 15 volunteers for this cleanup. If we can get this amount we should be able to take care of this by 1 PM or so. While not as fun as paddling, we are going to try and make this as fun of an event as possible. I promise that after we are done and you see what we have accomplished you will be glad that you volunteered.

Phase Two: Consists of taking the accumulated junk and ferrying it to the other side of the creek, then loading and hauling it away. I spoke with the property owner two weeks ago and secured permission to take TWO vehicles across his property. One is the truck / trailer to haul off the junk and the other will be our shuttle vehicle. I gave the landowner my word on this and no exceptions will be allowed.

Lunch and beverages will be supplied. We are going to have a grill and cook burgers and dogs on the beach across from the junk location. If this does not get you to volunteer then I surrender.

Equipment Needed:
Truck and trailer (Kyle Meserve has kindly offered the use of his truck and trailer)
Raft (Hanley is providing this, many thanks)
1- Canoe to ferry everyone across the creek (Needed)
Ferry Rope (Taken care of)
4 x 8 sheet of plywood 1/2" or thicker to protect the raft (Needed)
Gloves (Bring your own preferably leather)

Date: May 31 (weather permitting)
Time: 9:00 AM
Location: Meet at Elkhorn Acres Takeout

Thanks,
Allen

Allen, I may have the plywood. I'll check this evening and let you know at the meeting.

If we still need a canoe as the cleanup day nears, I'll volunteer a friend and his shiny new boat. I can grab it at the last minute, shouldnt be a problem if I buy him beer.

Bethany, Brandon, and Heather,
Thanks for the offer of materials and volunteering. I will advise on the canoe when we get closer to the 31st.

Heather, glad to hear that your hand is healed up. I have added you to the list.

No dice on the plywood Allen. I guess it walked out of my shed at some point over the winter. If no one has any around, I can pick up a sheet at home depot, throw it on Hanley's raft (btw, Hanley, I offered to transport your raft to the cleanup since I'm right around the corner from you--I'll be in touch about loading it up, etc.) and bring it to the cleanup.

Just let me know.

That works. I may have plywood scrap appropriate to the task in my garage. Let's blow that thing up one day soon and try to outfit it with a deck.

Thanks for looking. If nothing turns up, I will purchase a sheet. I have a project at home that I can use it on.
