Campfire ghost stories

I love getting scared with a good ghost story around a warm campfire in the remote backcountry. Unfortunately, as I've aged (and esp having begun boating!) I've found less and less stories are able to make the hair jump off my neck. However, I just read this one and besides being true (it was on the Internet, it must be right?) it is one of the most bizarre stories I've ever heard.. and deeply, deeply creepy. Thought I'd share the scare.

The short version: 9 mountaineers set out on a trek in Russia in 1959. At some point while they slept on the night of Feb 1 they became so terrified they ripped out of their tents from the inside and ran away from camp. Of the 9 6 died of hypothermia (official version) and other 3 died of massive wounds to skull, chest, and smt else, however there were no external injuries. I'll leave the other details to the story but Russian did like a 15 year investigation and this and that. All the elements are there for a real freaky story that's verifiably true, or at least Something happened on that mountain...

What's the cave story? Or what's the name so I can look it up?

Okay, I'll check it out.

And I'll see if I can find the cave story. It'll eat up at least 15 minutes of your life that you'll wish you had back later.

Wow, great story! I hated how it ended with the 5/19 post so I did some research to see if it was a real cave or not... Turns out it's very similar (sans the pictures which really added to suspense!) to a Thomas Lera story called the Fear Of Darkness. In fact it's identical in most parts except the story goes on after the return to the cave w/ "Joe" (Matt in the story) Great great fun read, now I'ma go finish it...
