Apple's recent maladies

Very interesting article. For the record, the author acknowledges that Apple products are still excellent by and large, particularly their PC's and laptops. However, he notes that as Apple's product and service line expand and their market share rises, that they are experiencing more and more technical difficulties, some of them unacceptably severe. He also notes that as their customer base widens away from the hardcore brand loyalists they are having a harder time dealing with these problems in an appropriate manner.

It's all very interesting in the light of some of the Mac vs PC debates we have had here in the past. Don't worry Barry, I'll immediately concede to you that Microsoft has had more than it's share of problems and customer relations debacles and that Apple still maintains a number of very strong advantages over M$. As the author notes, someone who is unhappy with their iPod is still unlikely to shed it for a Zune. I just thought I'd bring this up because it supports my contention that Apple is also flawed and that as it expands it will experience more of the same problems that Microsoft is often vilified for. I'm not contending that Bill Gates's creations are superior, just that Apple's creations aren't always better just because they come from Apple.

Actually, I hope that Apple learns from these experiences and begins to amend its customer service policies to handle these kinds of problems in a more open and productive way. Even though I'm pretty seriously anchored in PC land, I still admire Apple and feel that they have a lot of very good products and ideas.

Yo Hanley, I guess PC fanboys will scramble at any crumbs they can find to slam Apple:-) One can only shudder to think of the problems that would occur if Microsoft actually got it together and made a phone themselves. With that in mind - here's a look at what they would probably come up with:

Wes, it's really easy to find stuff that makes fun of M$. Here's another site that is really a riot: [support.microsoft.com]
