1st timer trip (newbies) May 16 - 17- Nanty

I'm glad it was another great clinic and since I was unable to attend I'm planning a trip to the Nantahala River for all clinic students who'd like to come. Especially the canoe students.

If you haven't heard of the Nantahala River(Bryson City, NC) then just ask any experienced boater and most will tell you it was one of their first true whitewater runs. It is a great introduction to moving water. Mostly Class I and II with a III at the end for a wet blast to finish the day on the water. Restaurants and gear shopping at the NOC and the Appalachian Trail which also runs right next to the NOC.

We will camp (location TBD) and be on the river Saturday and Sunday (which can be an abbreviated run if you desire) email me or respond here. Instructors if you think your students would be interested and may not be on the forum yet let them or me know so we can invite them along. Families welcome and encouraged as duckies can be rented and they are fun and little experience is required on the Nanty.
More details as the time gets closer.

I have a couple of experienced boaters coming so far but could use any and all help in making sure everyone has a fun day.

I'm in, and can't wait. Let me know if there is anyway that I can help to get this going strong.

Aha! Bill, your trip will be contemporaneously occurring with the Boater Chick Festival. An accident?? I think not!

I might be able to help out on one of the two days. I was going to try to make it to one of the clinics at the festival, so I'll be free on the other day to help out. I'll let you know closer to the date.

Well based on my previous experience with women boater weekends....Dandy Don, Handsome Dave and I would have been there had we but known. I'm sure Dave's toenails need a paintin'.

Thanks Bethany I appreciate the help. I followed that link and that sounds like an awesome weekend. A canoe roll even, you know it has to be good then.

We are still planning to head to the Nantahala River this weekend the 16th and 17th of May, rain or shine. All interested parties are welcome. Planning on driving down Friday evening after work and camping at the Nantahala campground (pauline's)for two nights (last year was $7.00 per person/night). Block house showers and bathrooms are available. Meet me there for some cold water fun, dress appropriately the water is colder than a ................I have room for a couple of riders but will probably not be able to leave earlier than 5ish Friday and returning Sunday evening hopefully not late. Ask for directions if you need them.
