As you all know, we are looking for a new location to hold our monthly meetings. One question that came up this weekend was this:
Does our meeting place have to serve food?
One line of thinking is that the process of serving food and taking orders is somewhat disruptive to holding meetings. Anyway, just a thought and let me know what you think.
Allen:
I think it helps draw some of the folks in. Otherwise there's the matter of scheduling dinner that evening around the BWA mtg, which I, for one, would find inconvenient. However, it was a lot less disruptive and a lot more attractive when we had the pizza buffet style, IMHO. It seems that's a hard formula to reproduce elsewhere.

I agree it is rather disruptive, but the buffet set up is ideal for our meetings. Any other places that could accomadate this? besides a chinese joint?
I personally don't think food is a necessity, but I'm someone who prefers to eat at home vs. eating out anyway. I do think the ability to bring in food and drink would be nice.
I think not having a food requirement would definitely open up many more options. However, I bet many of those options will charge a rental fee. There are lots of clubhouses around town in connection with neighborhoods.
I think it is nice to have the option of having food at our meeting place but does not need to be a requirement. I think being able to order or drink a beer should be a requirement : - ) With the meeting at 7:30 it makes it easier to grab a bite before the meeting. But I can still listen to and order a beer at the same time.
Has anyone talked to the BBQ folks where Sontinos used to be? I hope they open soon.
Possible thread Jack:
I would like to make a suggestion for the September meeting to be at Elkhorn Take Out. It’s cooler weather and it gives us enough time to get the word out. I don’t know if I will make the next meeting and I would like to go ahead and bring it up.
Hey Dave! I second that on the September meeting at the Acres. It is a good time and was quite fun last year with our mowing and weedeating crew beforehand.

I stopped by But Rub BBQ (formally Sontinos) and they are open for Business. I mentioned we would interested in trying the place out. The manager Gregg remembered talking with Hanley and they would be willing to have us. They would rope off the back room. They would even consider setting up an all you can eat buffet but he was not sure about the price.
Although I don't always need to eat at a mtg, it is a nice option sometimes and think it will draw in more members than it will keep away. While I wouldn't particularly enjoy BBQ, I will say that if there were a chinese place that would set up a buffet for us at night and had a nice mtg area, that would be fine for me. I love chinese!
