Boaters: For this month, minutes from the steering committee and our monthly meeting will be compiled in this single post.

10/13 Location: PANDA CUISINE
Attendance: 44 members, (All seats furnished were filled)

Program

The October steering committee enthusiastically voted to support Robby Martin's team of UK engineering seniors in their efforts to create a safe, simple and economically feasible variable inlet for a Boonesborough Water park based upon the preliminary drawings of Dustin Anderson. Following the SC approval, Robby was invited to deliver another powerpoint presentation to the group assembled at Panda Cuisine.
This team of engineers proposed a school-year length study which could be renewed in subsequent years with additional teams of students familiar with the project. In addition to a cost analysis, this team envisions creating a scale model to enhance its ultimate marketing potential. It was suggested at the SC meeting that BWA contributions of approximately $200.00 would ensure that materials for the model would be obtained . This coeducational team of Kentucky watersports enthusiasts has already acquired the pump necessary for the inlet.
Following a question and answer session, Larry Cable made a motion to support Robbie's project. The motion was seconded, and the club voted unanimously to support.

We had three new attendees, one from Ohio, one from Flemingsburg, and a recent transplant from Montana who announced that Phillip Gall's has resumed offering a 10% discount to BWA members on all store items. Thanks, Mark. (He's a skier, too.)

TRIP REPORTS (highlights)

Bubba Sisk confessed to swimming out of a sticky ledge-hole following some text-book cases of dysfunctional rescue- rope technique.

ClaY Warren confessed to a couple of heroic but last-place finishes in Baddlun competitions. He also had a great return drop down The Horsepasture River in NC.

JBOB and Elizabeth gushed about their virgin UG runs.

Officer Reports:
Past President Brent Austin announced a Beef Stroganoff entree for the BWA Fall party at Carson Island on October 24th.
Wes: Roll Sessions will resume at Northside YMCA from 7:45 to 9:45 on November 13th and 20th. December sessions take place on the 4th, 11th and 18th of December and will continue through March. Price: $5.00 for members or 4 for 15.00. Nonmember fee 10.00. Children free with paid adult. (This adult should demonstrate good judgement--frequently difficult for child-bearing boaters.)

Alan has issued Elkhorn passes to all paid members.
Fred has notified Heather of BWA slackers who owe dues.
The SC had earlier approved yanking posting privileges to these individuals.
In other SC officer reports:
Bethany: CSX railroad bureaucrats insist that their people monitor clean-up efforts along tracks in RF Gorge. Furthermore, they are unresponsive to a collaborative effort. Our conservation officer will spearhead a cleanup crusade using garbage bags. Bubba suggested having a trash removal weigh-in to motivate individual trash collection with various quantities of alcoholic beverages.
Despite her efforts, Bethany has discovered that The Bluegrass Christian Camp superintendant has not responded to her offer of cleanup assistance following the recent flood damage that littered our Boone Creek gorge section with camp detritus.

CLAY proposed an early December weekend devoted to the Greater Russell Fork cleanup. More specifically, Brent suggested a raft-supported sweep of the Lower RF.

DOn Spangler has completed an on-line Acrobat - printable BWA Membership roster. He announced that a quarterly newsletter will be ready soon. Members who submit photographic images should consider larger print sizes for successful duplication in the newsletter. As always, he encourages article from members..

Brandon asked the SC for suggestions on judge selection and travel reimbursement. A team from WKU's Communication Dept has been contacted as a judge resource for outside the nonpaddling community as well as a local team of Wood Songs volunteers. Hanley asked that the nonpaddling judges be limited to one. Keith questioned the objectivity and qualifications of judges affiliated with Woodsongs.

Kyle has tweaked our website and link configuration. BWA and NPFF Facebook pages are in the works.
