BTW, Mr. Spangler would like to get photos and a write up, or write ups (plural), for the next newletter. I know that a number of you were taking photos, including I believe some of the more infamous rescue attempts (think spagetti). Please help Don out with a story of your experience.
Great people, good water and hot temps. The class was as successful as I could wish it to be and I thoroughly enjoyed co-instructing with Larry. I am particularly proud of those folks who admitted to not being great swimmers yet took each water challenge on eagerly and aggressively. You aren’t fully aware of your progression of being in moving water yet.
I just wanted to say how much fun the entire group was to teach. I quite enjoyed getting to know folks who I was acquainted with previously and meet folks who I had yet to have the privilege to. Not to brag too much but you handled the scenarios in the end very well and I can say you are an asset to your fellow boaters. I am happy to report that the only carnage was from that young girl freaking out from Meryl’s Oscar nominating performance as a distracted crazed out swimmer. Truly a classic moment that will be hard to forget.
Thanks Larry and Meryl for making the class great for the students and to Dale for his help in our request for water. Brandon’s coordination was phenomenal making it easier on us to administer all the little details that normally take our focus from the class. Meryl your Penny story would make a great AW article by the way.
I had a blast and Grace misses all of her new friends already. Can’t wait to coordinate another class and we will look into perhaps teaching the advanced class curriculum that some folks requested.
Thank you to Larry and Jason for teaching a great Swift Water Rescue course. I really learned a lot and it helped my confidence with swimming in whitewater and helping others. Thanks also to Meryl and Fred and to everyone who participated!
David had to do a pig rig to get me out of bed on Monday! Thanks to everyone who took the class. I took the class for my own future paddler....if you see this blond haired boater in a pin, please save him! See attached.
I forgot to mention earlier, I found a grey t-shirt that has a navy stripe across the front. I'll bring it to the next BWA meeting. Let me know if you think it's yours.
