Over the years AW has helped a number of non profit organizations form in a variety of ways. We would like to welcome the newest such organization to the non profit family.

THE WILLIMANTIC WHITEWATER PARTNERSHIP, INC.

The Willimantic Whitewater Partnership is the brainchild of AW intern extraordinaire Dan Mullins. Dan is far more than an intern, he is a motivated law student who is attempting to restore a severly impacted reach of the Willimantic River in Connecticut through establishing broad support for the removal of several dams and the revitalization of the waterfront. We are proud to support Dan's efforts and would like to congratulate him on starting his own non profit organization. Dan has already been successful at developing broad conceptual support for the dam removals, kicking off a process that could lead to the removals, and lining up a wide array of technical expertise. We are working on assisting Dan with building a web page for his new organization. If anyone would like to volunteer to design a web page for this new organization, please contact Kevin Colburn at kevin@amwhitewater.org.

The mission of the Willimantic Whitewater Partnership shall be to recapture the waterfront of the Willimantic River primarily in the Town of Windham and Willimantic, including but not limited to increasing safe access to the river for residents, restoring the environment of the river and the anadromous and other fish populations and other wildlife, creating a regional swift water rescue and training center, encouraging environmental and hydrologic scientific research, involving and serving as a resource and opportunity for local educational institutions to participate in action research, developing an urban waterfront and whitewater park, enhancing the potential of Willimantic as a recreation hub, and supporting the growth of a trans-cultural arts and enterprise zone in Willimantic, Connecticut.

Best Wishes with the new organization Dan!
