After talking with AW about it, Duke Energy has posted the following message about the planned release on Western North Carolina's West Fork of the Tuckasegee River this weekend:

"Lake Glenville is at full pond after 7 inches of rain over the region in the last several days. High inflow into the lake continues. Duke Energy is currently spilling 600 cfs into the bypass reach and will be unable to decrease the flow to provide the scheduled bypass recreation release of 250 cfs for May 11.  Duke Energy will plan to reschedule this 250 cfs West Fork Bypass Recreation Release on Sunday, June 9.  This will provide the opportunity for a two-day recreation release weekend with 250 cfs bypass releases from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for both Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9. Duke Energy may extend the releases through the weekend, based on forecasted precipitation.

WARNING: high flows and the natural environment of the bypassed reach can create dangerous conditions. The bypass is six miles long, narrow and challenging, and is recommended for advanced paddlers only.  Please note that there is downed wood in the West Fork channel, and increased flows could move that wood into the channel clogging positions that are difficult to navigate."

So there will  be water this weekend - but LOTS of it.  It will be nice to have a full weekend of releases in June after natural flows calm down a bit (presumably).
