If You Are Going to Compete in 2002!!

  1. Teva and AW have joined forces to host the "2002 Teva Tour". The Tour will include fourteen events in four geographic regions and will culminate with the Teva Whitewater National Championships sanctioned by American Whitewater.

  1. All athletes must be current members of American Whitewater prior to competing. Athletes will be able to join AW at events or purchase a one-day membership for $10. Athletes joining AW at an event will be able to join for $25.

  1. All paddlers must register with AWF prior to competing. Registration allows for the tracking of points and ensures that all necessary information is on file. Once registered, athletes will receive a membership card that must be presented at each event in order to receive a bib.

a. There is no registration fee for Beginner, Sport, or Expert competitors.

b. If an Expert wishes to have their points count towards a spot at the Teva Whitewater National Championships then they must pay a registration fee to the AWF. This fee is the same registration fee that has been charged in the past. The fees help to cover the costs of maintaining the necessary records and the Championships.

  1. All amateurs must choose to a home region.

  1. An athlete's home region is the region that the athlete must qualify in to attend the National Championships presented by Teva and American Whitewater.

a. Amateur athletes may not register in more than one region, but they are encouraged to compete in as many events as possible.

  1. Points received in an amateur's home region are worth 25% more than out of region events.

a. The Pro Am event in each region is worth 50% more points to both amateur and pro athletes.

b. The Wausau Double Up is worth double points to all athletes despite region or status.

  1. Amateurs placing in the following categories, according to earned AW Freestyle and Boatercross points, from each region will be eligible to attend the Teva Whitewater National Championship.

a. Junior (15) Men & (15) Women

b. Junior Expert* (10) Men & (10) Women

c. Beginner (15) Men & (15) Women

d. Sport (20) Men & (20) Women

e. Expert (25) Men & (25) Women

*Will have the opportunity to compete in the senior expert class for a chance to earn pro status for 2003.

  1. Pro athletes will compete for (40) spots for Men and (40) spots for Women to attend the Championships. When determining a pro athlete's ranking only the athletes top six finishes will be included.

  1. The Teva Whitewater National Championships will be held at the Olympic Whitewater Center on the Ocoee River in Ducktown, TN, October 10-13th.

  1. All American Whitewater Freestyle information including schedule and rankings will be available at www.americanwhitewater.org.
