As gnarly as this looks, this isnt even the main part of pennington falls, this is just where the
water was so high it was flowing over the bank and off the side. If you were to look at the main
drop from head on, you would see a 5-6 foot waterfall at the top, then some big rapids slopping
downward steeply, then the last drop there is a huge rock about 6-7 feet tall dividing the 2 drops.
The one on the right is what i was aiming for when wiped out. My Dad yelled at me to "go around", i
thought he could see something i couldnt like a nice pool and said "go down." It was hard to hear
over the roar of the falls so i went down. Bad idea without scouting. The pool below isnt very deep
and its a big drop down. But after the biggest drop the rapids continue for another 50 feet, then
it calms slightly for only a moment, then down another drop, then calms slightly just before
everything narrows again between 2 rocks down a slide with a big wave at the bottom that breaks at
an angle that flips kayaks really easy. We flipped at this set and because of the velocity of the
water and the never ending rapids, we were drug upside down for a distance hitting every rock on
the way down. I bailed from my kayak and going down feet first began wacking my tail bone on every
other rock. This lasted for about 500 feet or so before i was able to recover. At the right flow,
Pennington Creek will work you to the bone. This is a really fun creek despite the ass kicking it
does. Edit
