| Account | A kayaker running the recommended line - through the center of the rooster tail. Running Granite in a 2-person shredder. A high-performance cataraft made by Airtight Inflatables, PA. This is an excellent boat for running the Colorado; I am surprised there are not more running it. Support raft on a private trip runs just right of the huge hole at Crystal. Deer Creek and it's side canyon make an excellent day hike diversion when running the Colorado river. The three plus hour hike goes up above the falls to a beautiful oasis with cool pools and smaller waterfalls. Hike continues into plains to another waterfall higher up where stones have been made into giant chairs. Small waterfall on hike at Deer Creek, above main waterfall. Excellent for getting an invigorating power shower. Side hike on the Colorado river at Nankoweap to see the graineries used by the Anasazis to store their grain high above on the cliff side to keep it dry and away from rodents. Short steep hike - about an hour or so. Stanton's Cave is located on the canyon wall just upsteam of Vasey's Paradise. The cave is gated off, but one can hike up to the entrance and look in. Another great side hike on the Colorado River. Parking in the eddy (river left) is limited, but the experience is definitely worth it. Wind you way up the narrow canyon to the spacious amphitheater. Private raft running Upset rapid, which as the name suggests, has more consequence for rafts than kayaks. Kayaker below water level as she approaches the rooster tail. Support raft on private trip with passenger (Holly Corrigan) in front. |
