River Description
OK, given the fact that the state of Illinois is decidedly NOT paddler friendly with its
designation of navigable waters, I would have to say this one falls into the realm of answers to
the question "What's a good way to meet a Rockford cop?" Starting on a lake in a park
(or below its dam), scenery starts with a short stretch of tree-lined 'wilderness', but that is
quickly lost to a channelized section running through decaying industrial/factory area of the
city, criss-crossed with street and railroad bridges.
