the river. Very approximately within a mile from the dam is a DOUBLE STRAINER at this level (~180).
It is a downed tree across the entire river. It appears to be two main stems of the tree. The river
moves at a good pace, so we could not ferry. We went full steam over the clearest part of the tree.
The two stems of the tree are about two feet apart. We were stuck on top of both stems, luckily our
canoe was straight with the flow. At this level, I consider this dangerous. I am a class V kayaker
and am out of my element in a canoe. At this level I would solo canoe so you can get over logs
better. It appears over the last few weeks the dam bounces between an output of around 200 or an
output of 400 cfs. The online gauge is hard to find. Go to http://www.mwcd.org/levels for current
output, but there is no release schedule. This is a fun river that doesn't have all the traffic of
the very popular Mohican.
in my opinion. A few deadfalls might require some boat handling skills however? There is a wave at
the base of the dam that might offer some play but that area is heavily fished.
