DESCRIPTION:
This first section includes a canyon and a few rapids. An alternative access point 15 miles down at Cougar Smith Rd. marks the start of a somewhat easier section that can only marginally be called a whitewater run. There are a few places to practice moves.

Visual. Flows of around 500 cfs are good. The Satsop gauge near Satsop gives you some indication of what's happening in the basin. The West Fork runs about 25% of this gauge.
