River Description
This is one of the best Class 2-3 creeks in all of West Virginia! The creek flows through Greenland
Gap and contains beautiful scenery with several spectacular rock formations. Putin on Elklick Run
at Rt. 93 and float this for about 100 yards to the confluence of another equal sized stream that
forms the North Fork of Patterson Creek. The creek flows along swiftly for the first part until it
enters Greenland Gap. The rapids begin to steepen as you approach the Gap with a nice 3 foot boof
and a steep rocky rapid right below. As you enter the Gap, the stream becomes surrounded by laurels
and rock formations. The rapids are continuous and rocky Class 2-3 rapids. After about a mile, the
run calms down but continues to drop over Class 2 rapids. As you approach the exit of the Gap,
there is a 15 foot sloping falls. This can be run down right of center for an exciting ride. Right
below is a 4 foot ledge that can be run in the center. The takeout is just below.
CR 3/3 runs along this run for its entire length so the shuttle is short. As with all small
streams, you need to constantly be on the lookout for strainers.
