River Description

This creek is a rarely run trib of Little Stony. The gradient is steep, the creek is comprised of steep boulder gardens and BIG drops. Many of the boulder gardens lead directly into the bigger drops on the creek. Better have the -A- game for this run! The Ramey Fork drops close to 650 feet in 1.5 miles, this is a steep one. And it dumps into Little Stony just above where the good action starts.

The Ramey Fork is also located in the heart of the Jefferson National Forest, which is being threatened by heavy logging practices.One of the headwater streams for the Ramey Fork flows right through a disgusting timber cut.

The Ramey Fork has changed up a bit due to the flooding over the last couple of years. A decent portion of it is very sketchy now, two sieves have opened up and there is no clear way around them. There have been some changes in the smaller rapids as well. Not to mention some of the lumber. The pool at the bottom of the big drop looks as if it has gotten shallower.

The run should be scouted well before any attempt at running it.
