Note: April 2001 tornado deposited lots of wood in the upper gorge blocking all rapids above 'Blue-Light Special'. The combination of Steep banks and lots of dead red oak trees (thanks to the borer beetle infestation) tend to clog the creek with wood from time to time, so keep look out.
Put-in: Go North on Newton County Road 28 from Hwy 16 at Deer and head toward Wayton. This road takes you past the Alum Cove NFS recreation area. Continue for 1.1 miles North past the rec. area to where 2 NFS roads fork to the right (East). Take the one heading South and East. Follow several hundred yards and park at the burm. Drag down the old road to the right of the burm.
Take-out: Continue North on CR 28 as it turns into Hwy 327 at Wayton on to Parthenon. Park on the upstream East side of the bridge over Shop Creek.
