Gauge Information
River Description
There are two sections of rapids on this run. The stream is created from the spill way of a small
lake. The main drop from the lake is not runable, but the second drop is ok. On the river right
after the spill way is a good class III drop.
After the first drop it is flat water for a good .45 miles and then a long class two shoal. If
there is not ALOT of water on this shoal it will be very scrapey.
Big Sandy Creek is in a state park. There are some keep off signs next to the first drops. I don't
think they would mind if someone were to kayak the bottom shoal, but the top is another story. If
you are going to run the top drops, I would advise a quick run.
Directions: From Jackson, take HWY 23 southeast out of town. Right after 23 becomes four lanes take
HWY 42 south (it is a right turn). Follow 42 until you cross Big Sandy Creek. The park entrance is
on your right just after the creek.
