Boundary Creek offers paddlers a seemingly endless barrage of continuous Class IV and IV+ boulder rapids. While the run is 7.5 miles long if you start at the border, most paddlers describe it as 9-11 miles because it feels so long. This run is best attempted only by paddlers comfortable boat scouting and read-and-running steep class IV rapids. If you are that kind of paddler, you are in for a remote panhandle treat. A relatively new online USGS gage offers paddlers terrific flow information.
American Whitewater (John Gangemi) played a lead role in defeating a proposed dam on Boundary Creek.

Note: lat/longitude coords are only barest ballpark numbers.
There is now an online USGS gage that offers great realtime flow information, however there is virtually no paddling beta associated with readings on this gage. Please add a comment to this streampage with your flow and what you thought of the run. Below is the historic beta from John Gangemi:

Check with the hydro guys to see what the flow is on Smith Creek above their diversion. If Smith Creek is around 600-800 you are good to go on Boundary Ck. Be sure the hydro guys give you the flows above their diversion. Smith Ck is runnable from 125 to 300 cfs. The power plant generally pulls 370 cfs from Smith Creek so a flow of 670 above the diversion would put Smith Ck in the high end runnable range at 300 cfs. Be sure to check with the power plant first. Smith Ck. is a handful at high water. Always thank the hydro guys for the information so that the next boater is able to get the info. as well.
In 2000 we ran Boundary Creek with the gage at 11.7. This is the lowest run I've ever done. Initially thought it would be a boney run but it turned out to be great. I typically run this 1 foot higher (based on observations of channel and takeout rocks because USGS has recently changed the gage so I don't have a gage reference.) I'll calculate this flow when USGS sends me a rating curve.
