See the New York Exposed book for the an alternate description.
Put in off Silver Lake Rd. in the hamlet of Black Brook. First 1/2 mile is easy until the brook pulls near Haselton Rd. This could be an alternate put-in.
After the brook pulls away from Haselton Rd. the first time, it goes over a small drop, shoots left back toward the road, then S turns back right away from the road. This section is III/IV and the rapids are fairly continuous. There is a good chance of WOOD in here, so this MUST be scouted before running. The scout is very easy; most of it can be seen from Haselton Rd., and the opening drop only requires a short walk from the road to see. I would recommend scouting this before putting on.
After this section, the river pulls away from Haselton Rd. It is a pretty run through the woods - but due to the small size of the stream, always be on the lookout for wood!
Take out where the stream crosses under Haselton rd., (private property - get permission) or continue downstream to the W. Branch of the Ausable. A nice trip, particularly in high water, is to run the Ausable all the way down to Ausable Forks.
Note the gauge referenced in New York Exposed is a different gauge on the East Branch of the Ausable.
