River Description

The following is from Mark Cumnock's AW Article:

This one is accessed when paddling Stinging Fork. Not too much going on this run, pretty much your typical Class III run out and not even boogie water when Stinging Fork is running at a good level. It can also be accessed from the other Tiny Piney (Put-in: Piney Falls, Grandview TN), which is difficult because of the two big waterfalls on the Piney run. One of the falls has a hiking trail now. After the big falls, it is like Soak Creek with Class-III runout.

One other thing to remember when in the Spring City area: there are four runs that I know of in the same general area that have the name "Piney." Make sure to have your map out when on the phone or e-mailing about the run you are planning for your next trip. Hate to see you show up at one take out and your buddy at another ... trust me, it’s happened. LONG STORY: the take-out is the same for the Piney Creek take-out. (Put-in Evensville TN)

Gauge Information

Gauge Description:

Check the gauge at the bridge piling at the Piney Take-out. The minimum on the old gauge was 3.75+/ 4.0. The min. on the current bridge gauge would be higher, but it's unclear what would be a good min. 5.0?

An old-school way to know if it is a min: check all of the following gauges:

N.Chick: 7.0
Tellico: 4.2
Emory: 8500'+
Town, yes, Town :425

This one takes a soaking rain.

For better warmer fuzzy feeling after checking the above gauges, go to Mark D's website,alabamawhitewater.com. He has the TVA Rain Gauges tied in. Check for Watts Bar to have 1.75 inches of rain. Also, look for the Pikeville rain gauge to have 1.6" of rain.
