Best boatable flows unknown. Please help us out! Add a comment! Gauge (380 sq.mi. drainage) is at put-in. Flows are highly regulated by dam immediately upstream (subject to suddenly rise or fall significantly). |
River Description
Greg Hynes submits (2006-04-14):
For those living in or around Southeastern Indiana this is a fun run with some fun play spots.
Most of the property along the river (except the Brookville Town Park) is private so please
respect.
The put is just below the dam off of Highway 101. (Stay well below the spillway.) Watch for
friendly fishermen. You will float down through several riffles and (at high water) class II-III
drops. The last of these will be river left, just before the US 52 bridge and the confluence with
the West Fork (old cement factory dumping area). This oblique surfing wave is the most fun, but
develops into a powerful keeper hole at high flows (lake let down times).
For take out you may wish to coordinate with (and maybe pay an access fee to) Morgans Canoe (on the
Whitewater River, after the confluence with the W.Fork).

II-III river. It is a class I river. Second, I would not consider it "runnable" at this level. We
drug through almost every riffle. There were a couple of small waves and holes that were barely a
discernable feature at this level and were barely surfable. I would suggest about 3-6 more inches
of water to be classified as minimal flows. At that level, this could be a great training run for
beginners to learn edge control and there are plenty of good eddies to catch.
