FORD RIVER NEAR HYDE, MI
usgs-04059500 925 - 3000 cfs I(II) 60d15h35m 254 cfs (rc= -0.7 )
Not recommended as a whitewater run. Will be tame, and a scrape. Gauge (450 sq.mi. drainage) lies about two miles upstream of put-in, thus should very accurately portray flows in this reach.

River Description

The run consists primarily of swiftwater, punctuated by a nice series of standing waves (class II? III?) with little obstruction, as the river bends to the right beyond an island. Another lesser rapids (I-II) lies about 1.5 miles further downstream.

Gauge Information

Gauge Description:

Indicated minimum is a guess, based solely upon the 10% flow rate from USGS historical records. If you have knowledge of this reach and recommendations of min/max levels, please add a comment below so we can refine these settings.

Note: Be aware that indication of a 'runnable' level does not mean that the river is necessarily runnable. In winter, readings may be 'ice affected', and/or sections of the river may be impassable due to ice.

Ran the Ford @ 1350cfs there is a short class II rapid section about 20 minutes downstrem from the
US 2 bridge just after a small island in the river. The rapid section is mostly swift water with
some fun waves. For most of the run it is flat water with some class I rapids. total run time was 1
hour 25 min. I would not recomend running under 900cfs. Edit
