The USGS gauge is a crude indicator for runnability of this small creek. Better to look for 2" of rain within 24 hours at the E Fork Black River & Glover rain gages and look for a sharp rise in the E Fork Black River gage. A paddler’s gauge is on the Hwy AA bridge near the put-in. The gauge is new (1/9/2005) and runnable levels are uncertain -- maybe 1 foot (?). However, the best way to gauge the minimum is to inspect the first drop, about 100 yards downstream from the bridge. The flat shelf at the bottom on the right and the boulder in the run-out should be covered with several inches of water.
