River Description

There appear to be several sections of classic bedrock drops and falls on several forks of the SF Tule. Many people have talked about boating here, and a few parties have boated here.   One report (see comment tab) states that there are some good big drops but that most of them are not clean and that there are many long and difficult portages on the short section that they ran.

Access and Permission to boat:
All of the steep bedrock sections are within the Tule River Indian Reservation and permission must be obtained for any activities.   Permits are easy to get.  Any resident that you encounter is likely to be curious and will ask to see your permit.

Tribal office phone numbers are: (559) 781-4271 and (559) 784-7860.   Call ahead on a  weekday to get a permit to kayak on the river.   The office is closed on weekends.

The Eagle Mountain Casino is on this reservation so food and entertainment is close by. There is also camping at Cholollo campground. Camping permits are obtained at the tribal office.   Call ahead of time.

Put in & Take out:

The latitude and longitude coordinates given on the map tab are not accurate for put-in and take-outs, but are in the drainage to help get map searches started. Coordinates will be corrected when better information becomes available.   Figure out the best put ins and take outs when you get there and comment back here.
