From ABC 10 news Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One person has died after drowning in the American River near Folsom Lake Saturday, officials with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office say.

Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says their deputies were called to the lower American River near Satan's Cesspool Rapid after reports came in of two people stranded on a rock.

Deputies say one of the two was swept away in the rapid prompting a multi-agency response which included a helicopter and two uninvolved kayakers.

Officials inside of the helicopter located the person down the river and two people who were kayaking along the American River helped pull the person out of the water and bring them to the shore below Hospital Bar Rapid near Folsom Lake, authorities say.

Sheriff Deputies reportedly tried performing life-saving measures, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the person who drowned but said that they are investigating the case.
