Police identify 11-year-old girl who died in the Raccoon River

Des Moines police have identified the 11-year-old girl who was found in the Raccoon River.Diamond Mathis died in the incident. Her body was recovered at about 12:20 p.m. Friday in the Raccoon River, north of the 5600 block of Park Avenue. Police and fire department rescue personnel first responded to a report of a child falling into the water around 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say that an 11-year-old girl had been on the water on an inflatable raft with two other children. She got off the raft, went under the water and did not resurface.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) -- WHO reports that the Des Moines Police Department have identified the 11-year-old girl who drowned in the Raccoon River this week.
According to WHO, Diamond Mathis was on an inflatable raft with two other children. The report indicates that a witness saw Mathis get off the raft and went under water, where she never resurfaced.
Mathis's body was found by the Des Moines Police Department Metro STAR Unit after a three-day-long search.No other information is available at this time.
