From Bryan Tooley: Someone drowned on the Rogue on Friday. From what I’ve learned it was a private boater in an IK who flipped and swam in the Coffee Pot and possibly had a heart attack. I believe they were wearing a PFD. OARS assisted in the aftermath.
Mason S. Hayes, 60, a kayaker from Fort Worth TX, died August 12, 2022 on the Rogue River in Oregon.
The Coffee Pot is a narrow twisty gorge sometimes only 20'wide. The gradient isn't bad,but the swirley twisty cross currents are hard to manage.
