News Staff KPIC Channel 4
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A 69-year-old man died on Tuesday, September 12, after a local guiding company raft flipped in the rapids of the Rogue River, said the Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) in a press release. JCSO says they and fire personnel responded to a water rescue call on Tuesday, around 3:30 p.m., in the area of Ti’lomikh Falls on the Rogue River near Gold Hill. Officials say dispatch received the call after a local guiding company raft flipped in the rapid and a 69-year-old man had a medical emergency.
According to the sheriff's office, bystanders started CPR on the man until first responders from Jackson County Fire District 3 and Mercy Flights arrived. A rescue boat transported the patient to a nearby waiting ambulance, which then brought the man to a local hospital. Officials say the man was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. that same day.
JCSO says out of respect for the family they will not be releasing the name of the deceased. JCSO is conducting further investigations into the incident.
