Kayaker dies after
falling into Skykomish River

GOLD BAR, Wash. -- A man
has died after falling from his kayak on the Skykomish River Saturday
afternoon.
A man kayaking with the
victim called 911 to report they were heading through Boulder Drop near Index
when the victim fell into the water and became separated from his kayak,
according to Lt. Brandon Vargas with Gold Bar Fire.
His friend was
eventually able to pull him from the water and they got to the north side of
the river bank, realizing his friend was unconscious and had no pulse.
The friend did CPR on
the victim for about 30 minutes before hiking about a mile to find someone with
a cell phone to call 911.
Rescue crews confirmed
the man had died and were still working to recover the body as of Saturday
evening, Vargas said.
The friend told rescuers
the victim was an experienced kayaker and was wearing all safety equipment. The victim's name has
not been released.

Two experienced kayakers went out on the Skykomish River. One ended up underwater for an unknown period of time. The friend of the man who went under pulled him from the water. The man wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse.
The friend pulled him out of the river and performed CPR for 30 minutes. He then hiked a mile to get a cellphone to call 911.
