Whitewater boating releases on Northern California's Pit River between Fall River Mills and Highway 299 will take place on October 6-7 and 20-21.

The Pit River is heavily impacted by hydroelectricity, and whitewater recreation opportunities have been decimated as a result. Releases were agreed upon in the 2003 FERC relicensing process to mitigate the loss of boating opportunities, and in June 2011, FERC approved four days of recreational whitewater boating flows to take place in October each year. This year's flows will be released over October 6th and 7th, and October 20th and 21st, and are expected to be around 850-950 cfs.

The Pit has something to offer everyone, with a range of Class II to Class IV water, and stunning scenery, waterfalls and geology. Nearby camping is available at the Pit River Recreation Area. There is no potable water at the site, so be sure to bring your own. American Whitewater will be there during the releases on the 6th and 7th, and we look forward to seeing you on the river. Be safe out there everyone.
