Rim Fire Closure Update (CA)

The Stanislaus National Forest in California issued a closure order and map for the areas impacted by the Rim Fire and has already opened some areas within the perimeter of the closure. The closure was put in place to protect cultural and and natural resources in the Stanislaus National Forest following the devastating Rim Fire. There has been some confusion regarding the closure and what it means for the 2014 Tuolumne River paddling season. American Whitewater has received assurances from the outfitting community that the USFS Groveland Ranger District has said they are doing everything possible to have Lumsden Road open for access to the Tuolumne River for boaters by 4/15/14 pending the outcome of winter and spring storms affecting road conditions.

If you have questions or concerns about the closure, contact River Management staff at the Stanislaus National Forest's Groveland Ranger District at 209-962-7825.
