Sultan River (WA) Release April 23rd!

Snohomish PUD has announced a scheduled whitewater recreational opportunity on the Upper Sultan
River on Saturday, April 23rd. Flows are anticipated to be set at 700 cfs below Culmback Dam and
will begin at 10:00 a.m. Flows will begin ramping down at 1:00 p.m. In addition to providing a
whitewater boating opportunity, these flows will benefit the overall health of the river.
This Class IV gorge is a great piece of whitewater in a spectacular setting. Scheduled flows that
provide boating opportunities are provided in April and September. The gorge is extremely remote
with limited access and wood hazards are present. The run is still relatively new, and we
recommend that boaters who are new to it have solid Class IV creeking skills and seek first-hand
reports of the run.
To take advantage of this opportunity, paddlers will need to sign up in advance with
Snohomish PUD and complete a release form. You can do both on their whitewater
recreation web page, which also provides video clips of the various river reaches.
American Whitewater has worked for years to restore flows to the Sultan River. For more
information on this history, check out our announcement about
the releases from last April.
Be safe out there, and have fun!
Camping Opportunity
The Sky Valley Fraternal Order of Eagles Club F.O.E 4149 would like to extend an invitation to
the boaters for the April 23rd Sultan River release the opportunity to camp on the field behind
our club at no charge. Located in the city of Sultan we are just minutes away from the put in and
take out of the Sultan River. There is plenty of room for you to pitch a tent, relax and
socialize the evening before and after the release. It’s also a great location if you want
to go boating again in the valley on Sunday. The backyard has outhouses, a fire pit and access to
the clubs bar with adult beverages for those that are over 21. The kitchen serves the usual good
‘ol bar food and really decent breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9:00 am to
noon. If you would like to accept the invitation please just come in and ask the bartender
to “sign you in” as part of the Sultan River release. All we ask in return is
to clean up after yourself and respect your neighbors.

little gravel road between the Park and Ride and Wagley Creek Automotive. Cross the creek and
we are just to the left. We are in the big green building with a flag pole out front.
